Salon Disegno

Giving Back

The Salon Disegno Community Program gives a different stylist each month the opportunity to coordinate an event for the entire salon to give back to a non-profit or charity of his/her choice. This is what we have been doing in our spare time...

Dog for a Day
This months community event was the Dog for a Day Program with Dekalb Animal Services. This program allows volunteers to pick a shelter dog and take them out of the shelter for the day to play, explore, and meet people. The shelters goal for this program is for volunteers to take pictures of the dogs in a happy environment to show the dogs real personality and not while they are scared or nervous in the shelter, and for these pictures to be posted on social media in hopes of finding potential adopters. A group our stylist did this together last Thursday the 16th and got to spend time with 5 shelter dogs. Belle (white American bulldog), Slate (white mixed breed with blue eyes), Lyle (black and white mix), Owens (blue mixed breed with grey eyes), and Prissy (red and white pit mix). If anyone would more information they can check out the shelter website at dekalbanimalservices.com or if anyone is interested in volunteering for the dog for a day program like we did they can email the volunteer coordinator, Kayla at volunteer@dekalbanimalservices.com

Prayers for Peyton is an organization that is dedicatied to raising money for Peyton Greene. All of the money that is raised for Peyton will go to help pay for the overwheling amount of mendical. The mission is that when this journey is finally over for Peyton; the family plans to “Pay-It-Forward”.  They will find another family that just heard the words “your child has cancer” and give them the money that is left over in the account.  Remember that every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. Childhood cancer affects families physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially.

Special Olympics with Kat-
The Special Olympics programs provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. As athletes have fun and develop physical fitness, they find acceptance, become confident and aspire to greatness in other aspects of their lives. The goal is to help bring persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens in their communities. When this is achieved through the sports programs, we demonstrate that the Special Olympics has a unique value: to show the world that every person counts.

Any Soldier Inc. with Jacelyn-
All the soldiers involved in this effort are military volunteers stationed overseas. We sent our support through letters and care packages for some of the millions of men and women that never receive any mail. Many of these men and women cope with harsh conditions while serving overseas without any sign of support from friends and family back home.
